Why does the room fill with smoke when I light the fire?

Damaged or blocked chimney flues, negative pressure and insufficient ventilation are just a few of the issues that result in a smoke-filled room. Brent can advise you by looking at the age of your property and your fireplace or appliance, either in person or on a video call.

We have just moved into a new home and I need ideas. Can you help?

Whether you have a modern or period property, Brent can help you decide which type of appliance will be the most energy efficient and aesthetically pleasing option.

Can you repair my antique marble fireplace?

Removing and restoring antique fireplaces to their former glory is a particular favourite part of Brent's work. He'd be delighted to look at your fireplace and recommend a course of action.

I haven't got a chimney. Can I still have a fireplace?

Yes. There are a few things to consider, most importantly good, safe ventilation, but an inset fireplace in a custom-built recess, without ash and smoke, can be a fantastic option for modern properties.

Can I buy a hydrogen fireplace in the UK now?

No, it's too early to think about hydrogen in the domestic sector in the UK just yet. However, some European countries offer appliances that burn a combination of hydrogen and natural gas.

I'd like a unique design. Can you create something just for me?

Brent enjoys creating bespoke designs that let him use the design skills he has learned and practised over the last 40 years.

What will it cost?

The first 15-minute consultation is free, during which you can explain your issue or what you're looking for. This can be followed by a visit for customers within 30 miles of Leeds city centre.

Do I need a flue lining maintenance service?

Yes. If the lining of the flue has deteriorated, dangerous gases can leak into your home. A professional should check the lining to make sure it is intact.

There are three main types of flue liner, and these can be used for solid fuel fires, gas fires and stoves:

Flexible metal: the most widely used, available in various diameters and materials.

Pumped liner system: a former is placed down the chimney, inflated and filled with a cement-like filler. Once deflated and removed, it leaves the perfect cavity for the flue.

Sectional pot liner: sections of liner are lowered down from the top and sealed at each joint. This system requires the chimney breast to be opened at any bend so the sections can be guided into place. It is a good choice for larger diameter flues in large fireplaces.

All flues must be checked every year for safety reasons. Flues for wood-burning stoves should be swept at least once every heating season.

Should I have my chimney swept regularly?

Yes. This is very important. You can see examples in our chimney sweeping gallery.
